Cofounder, Healthy Oceans Seafood Co.
Clarice Owens is a co-founder of Healthy Oceans Seafood Company, the owner of the brand Pescavore, based in Santa Cruz, California. Their company is a vertically integrated manufacturer of sustainable, wild-caught seafood products. Pescavore, their flagship product, is a 1.5 oz single serve portion of tuna jerky that boasts 5 times the omega 3s, half the sodium, and 5 times less sugar compared to the nation’s leading meat snack. Their locally caught tuna has a significantly smaller carbon footprint than meat, representing a groundbreaking innovation in the 3 billion-dollar US meat snacks category. Through strategic partnerships with major retailers such as Target, Safeway, and REI, Clarice and her team are dedicated to providing consumers with delicious flavors, premium ingredients, and powerful functionality in their products.
Clarice Owens embarked on her career as the first black female conferred in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s more than 100-year program in Aerospace Engineering. She has made significant contributions in top tier technology companies, including Boeing, Solar Turbines, and Bloom Energy, before shifting her focus toward sustainable food systems. Presently, Clarice and her team are devoted to developing market-based approaches that enhance capacity and value in US seafood supply chains while addressing structural deficiencies responsible for negative impacts on fishermen and the environment. Passionate about the convergence of food and technology, Clarice brings an outsider's perspective to a legacy industry, recognizing its potential for disruption and transformation.
